OUR FIRST PROJECT

Bululand.

Bululand is named after the Bulu tree which was one of the first trees planted. This land was bought in cooperation with Polwaththa Ecolodges near Digana in 2016.

Nel Kapteyn and her local colleague Athula are taking care of the planting, the initial watering and the protection of the trees. In 2016 and 2017 they have planted over 300 different trees and as of February 2019 there are over 400 new trees.

A change of climate between can already be felt when walking through the land.

Hi there,

Nice to see pictures of the growth of the planted trees! In January 2020 I visited Bululand again and saw many trees doing well. The soil vitality of Bululand has improved substantially over the three years.

And I am happy to see that the plastic bags - protecting young trees against nibbling animals - are now being replaced by iron mash wire. And even more happy that the higher trees do not need protection anymore.
